Chilango

Lead Captain

Chilango has been our lead captain for a while now, but he and the Belinda, our bigger boat in the North, go way back. He has operated the Belinda for 21 years and knows her like no other.

“Chilango” is only his nickname, though, which everyone calls him. It means “man from Mexico City.” But what made a man from Toluca, Mexico State, leave the mainland and come to Cozumel? In 1978, he needed a change of scenery and decided to come to the Caribbean. He found work as a first mate and became a captain after just two years.

Since then, he has worked as a captain for different companies and is now our lead captain. His love for the ocean and meeting new people has never waned, even after all those years, and he can’t imagine doing anything else.
